Swiss National Supercomputing Centre (CSCS), Lugano
In the Ticino, ETH Zurich runs the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre, the CSCS. Its ultra-modern supercomputers, including one in the petaflop performance class, are available to all Swiss universities and research institutions. Thanks to its sophisticated cooling system using water from the lake, the CSCS is now one of the most energy-efficient computing centres in the world.

Lugano Airport
- Lugano airport is situated just 15 minutes away from the town centre.
- Flights to Lugano are available from Zurich airport with Swiss International Airlines.
- The easiest way to reach Lugano from the airport is by shuttle bus. Regular transport between the airport and the city centre of Lugano for departures and arrivals between 8:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. (10:00 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. on Sundays).
Malpensa Airport
- Malpensa Airport (Milan, Italy) is 1 hour’s drive from Lugano. An express, direct shuttle bus is available that connects Lugano’s main station with Malpensa Airport with just one stop at the border. Make sure you book the shuttle in advance.
Zurich Airport
- Zurich Airport is a 3-hour train ride from Lugano, taking you through central Switzerland and crossing the Alps through winding tunnels. Well worth the trip for rail enthusiasts.
